We are delighted to announce that The Ritz Restaurant has won an Award of Excellence for our wine programme from The Wine Spectator Magazine. Since 1981, Wine Spectator’s Restaurant Wine List Awards has honoured the world’s best wine lists. and we are thrilled that we have become a part of this. The Ritz Restaurant Wine List represents each major wine-making country and has been developed throughout 2009, with Bordeaux, Burgundy, Italian and Californian wines most recently added to the list of around 400 references. The main focus of our inventory is centred on Bordeaux and Champagne regions thus reflecting our rich culinary history of French-British cuisine. Last year also saw the continuation of our ‘Sonata’ wine-paired menus. The Ritz London was also proud to announce in 2009, a unique wine partnership with Chateau Mouton Rothschild and the Summer launch of a new house wine. A Pauillac, produced by Baron Philippe de Rothschild from the 2006 vintage, enabled The Ritz London to become the first and only hotel to have its own bespoke wine. The Ritz is synonymous with a very special sense of occasion and our extensive range of Champagnes reflects this. We offer a unique selection of Grand Marque Champagnes by the glass and have developed a Champagne Calendar which introduces a different House each month. Head Sommelier Thomas Sorcinelli works effortlessly to reflect the expectations of our guests, whilst at the same time respects all levels of experience and knowledge. All six of our Sommeliers are certified with the most respected Wine Associations, including the Court of Master Sommeliers, the Worldwide Sommelier Association and the Wine & Spirit Education Trust.
