The Ritz London adds English Wines to its Livre du Vin

London, July 2016: During its 110th anniversary year as part of the best of British celebrations, The Ritz London is delighted to introduce English wines to the hotel’s wine list for the first time. Carefully curated by Head Sommelier Giovanni Ferlito, nine references from the Nyetimber, Gusbourne and Camel Valley estates in Sussex, Kent and Cornwall have been added to the wine list by the bottle this summer.

Sparkling Wine:
Nyetimber, Classic Cuvee, 2010
Nyetimber, Rosé, NV Nyetimber, Blanc de Blancs, 2009
Gusbourne, Brut Reserve, 2011
Gusbourne, Rosé, 2012
Gusbourne, Blanc de Blancs, 2011

White Wine:
Bacchus “Darnibole”, Camel Valley, 2014

Rosé Wine:
Pinot Noir Rosé, Camel Valley, 2014

Red Wine:
Pinot Noir, Gusbourne, 2014

The new Livre du Vin now comprises of approximately 800 references, including 150 new wine and fine wine listings added earlier in 2016.

Commenting on the new addition Ferlito says; “I am very proud to introduce English wines to the Livre du Vin at The Ritz for the first time in the hotel’s history. I believe these wines complement the list beautifully and it’s exciting to now offer our guests an English sparkling wine option as an alternative to Champagne. Year on year, we continue to see improvements in the quality of the English wines produced as a result of changes in the climate and the terroir, enabling the grapes to reach a more optimum ripeness, as well as the increased investment in wine making techniques, which is why we’ve made the decision this year to list English wines. In 2016, we also recognise the need to offer our guests a more sustainable choice of wine with a reduced carbon footprint at The Ritz.”

Traditionally with a focus on the Bordeaux and Burgundy regions of France and its great verticals including Latour, Lafite, Mouton and Margaux to name a few, The Ritz London’s Livre du Vin now includes listings from important wine regions across the globe such as Languedoc, Jura and South West France, Corsica and Central and Southern Italy, Portugal, Georgia, Slovakia, Greece, Washington and Oregon in the US and now England.

The Ritz Restaurant is considered by many to be the most beautiful hotel restaurant in the world. The vast floor to ceiling windows, the rich and varied use of soft pink, pale green and veined white marble, and the dazzling garlands of chandeliers reflected in the wall of panelled mirror, combine to create one of the most spectacular interiors, as charming by day as by night. Executive Chef John Williams MBE has been at the helm of the hotel’s dining service for the past twelve years, and continues to build on the principals and beliefs of Escoffier with his menus, drawing inspiration from classic dishes and using the best quality British produce in season, always precisely executed and impeccably presented.
