Profile of Spencer Metzger, Demi Chef de Partie

The story:
After completing two weeks work experience at the hotel in 2009 Spencer decided he wanted to be a Chef; John Williams MBE, Executive Chef told him about the Academy of Culinary Arts Apprenticeship programme through Bournemouth College. He signed up to this and then joined The Ritz in 2010 half way through the first year of his Bournemouth and Poole Specialised Chef Apprenticeship Course as an Apprentice. Throughout the 3-year course, with time spent at both The Ritz and the college, he grew in confidence and ability and went on to graduate in 2012 with distinction – and the highest mark within his year group! Spencer has been promoted through the ranks and is currently assisting the Demi Chef de Partie on the Sauce Section; he has proved himself to be an excellent young chef and there is no doubt that he will continue to achieve great things throughout his career. The whole kitchen team is immensely proud of his well-deserved Rising Star award.

Spencer is a real asset to The Ritz kitchen team with his infectious personality, fantastic work ethic and ever growing cooking skills. He came to work for me at the age of 16 and has been with me ever since. His apprenticeship gave him a fantastic foundation as a Chef. I have high hopes for Spencer and I know he is going to become a top Chef within the industry one day.

Profile of Hannah Wood, Assistant Salon Manager

The story:
Hannah started her career at The Ritz Salon in January 2012 as a Therapist. In her first year she faced many new challenges both mentally and physically from working within a busy environment with extremely high levels of service. This helped her develop as a Therapist and gave her several opportunities to perform The Ritz Salon Signature Precious Pearl Body Treatment on journalists from established magazines. At the end of 2012 she was nominated as the Rising Star of the year, which topped her previous achievements. Working at The Ritz Salon has offered her many opportunities which she had not received in her previous roles.

Manager’s comments:
I nominated Hannah for the Rising star award because she was just an exceptional Therapist. She put her absolute all in to all of her treatments and her guests. The guest’s satisfaction was and is still her number one priority. In her first year at The Ritz she carried out a treatment on a member of press and for this we got nominated second best Spa in London. Hannah has always carried every treatment out to the best of her ability and for this reason I nominated her Rising Star of the year.
