The Royal Opera House

One of the great Opera Houses of the world, a full programme runs throughout the year. The greatest singers, conductors, orchestras and dancers love to perform here. Highlights for 2008 include The Royal Ballet's Sleeping Beauty and popular operas Tosca and Don Carlo.

Skating at Somerset House

There are few better ways to get into the festive spirit than skating to your heart's content at this beautiful outdoor ice rink. The historic setting adds it's own unique magical atmosphere and can be enjoyed by day or in the evening. The rink is open from 21 November to 27 January.

Buckingham Palace

One of the world's most famous landmarks, Buckingham Palace is the Queen's official London residence. During the summer the lavish State Rooms are open to the public, offering the chance to get a glimpse of life in one of the world's few remaining royal palaces. The Changing of the Guard is also a great spectacle.

The Promenade Concerts

Kensington's iconic Royal Albert Hall hosts an annual celebration of classical and other fine music. There's always a great atmosphere and the performances are never short of stunning. The 2008 Proms season takes place between 18 July and 13 September.

Theatre

London is one of the truly great theatre capitals of the world and is justifiably famous for it's groundbreaking musicals and dramas. Phantom of the Opera, Chicago and Mamma Mia continue to enthral, whilst, after 52 years, The Mousetrap murder mystery remains the world's longest running show for good reason.

Comedy

Few other cities can boast such an incredible range of comedy shows as London. From traditional bedroom farce and classic comedies to stand-up comedians and alternative acts, there's sure to be a show in town that will have you laughing all night long.

Victoria & Albert Museum

Everyone's favourite, the Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington is recognised as the world's greatest museum of art and design. The richness and diversity of the various collections is extraordinary and there are many special exhibitions throughout the year.

Tate Modern

Already making a name for itself on the world's cultural landscape for it's stunning installations and pioneering exhibitions, the impressive Tate Modern is dramatically housed in a former Power Station. The gallery's regular displays include major works by Matisse and Picasso, as well as many other contemporary works of art.
