Shakespeare at The Old Vic Theatre

Edward Hall directs all-male company, Propeller, in two Shakespeare comedies of mistaken identities, deceptions and transformations

In The Taming of the Shrew, a brilliantly surreal and controversial romantic comedy, a drunken groom realises his mistake on his wedding day and a furious father-in-law teaches him a lesson. A man playing a boy dresses up as a girl, and a girl played by a boy dresses up as a bride. Whilst in Twelfth Night, on the island of Illyria nothing is quite what it seems. Shipwrecks, storms, late night drinking, duels and broken hearts make fertile ground for Shakespeare's most beautiful and haunting of comedies.

Happy 160th Birthday Escoffier.

We are delighted to be one of an exclusive number of hotels participating in the celebrations for the 160th birthday of Escoffier and particularly proud to be the only hotel in London to do so.

We will mark this occasion with a special dinner: "King of Chefs, Chef of Kings" on the 24th January 2007

Caesar Ritz and Escoffier's mutual understanding and teamwork throughout their working lives together was to bring about the most significant changes and modern development in the hotel industry.

Along with Escanard, Escoffier and Ritz were called to the Savoy Hotel in London as Head of Restaurant Services, Chef and General Manager respectively. Their success was beyond expectation. Hotels all over the world grew out of this famous partnership. Many of the hotels throughout the world were established on the guarantee of the gentlemens reputation.

A very special Escoffier menu will be served alongside a selection of fine French wines selected from the Ritz cellar, with the evening commencing with a canape and Ritz Centenary Cuvee Champagne reception.
